myTouch 3G & Android apps
I bought the T-Mobile myTouch 3G phone back in early August as part of the existing customers pre-order. To date, I've been extremely happy with the device. When it first arrived in the mail, the first thing I noticed was how solid the device is. I was expecting a cheaper looking device, more similar to the G1. Instead, HTC pulled off a really slick phone. The device feels sturdy and it's slick and the right dimensions. It is only very slightly thicker than the iPhone, and the length is slightly shorter than the iPhone. The widths appear about equal. The screen is nice, and touch sensitivity is quite good. The most awesome part was switching on the phone for the first time, which then prompts you for your Google account information. After entering it, the phone automatically synced all of my Gmail contacts with the phonebook and Google Calendar with the calendar app. Awesome. I was up and ready to go in only a minute.
It would be nice to see multi-touch like the iPhone. I guess that is the only thing I noticed as lacking but I don't really care that much about that feature.
The Android Marketplace has a large number of free and paid applications to choose from. So far all of the free apps have been the best ones! I think the only thing that was worth buying was Bejeweled. So far my favorite apps (as of this week, since they keep adding new ones) aside from the ones it came with (like Google Maps and Google Talk) are:
- Google Listen
- Pandora
- Last.fm
- Twidroid
- Amazon.com
- Happy Hours
- Qik
- WeatherBug
- Shazam
- Google Sky Maps
- Layar
- Wine Diary Lite
